is Trainwreck a train wreck?

Amy Schumer is a comedian I have been growing to really like. At first her material didn’t really hot well with me, but the more I see of her the more I like her. She has tried her had at acting now, and writing with the Judd Apatow directed Trainwreck. Coming along with her is a plethora of Apatow alum as well as some high powered cameos and great comedians. Train wreck stars Schumer, Bill Hader, Tilda Swinton, John Cena, LeBron James, Brie Larson, Colin Quinn, and Ezra Miller. Directed by Apatow himself and written by Amy Schumer.

Trainwreck is the story of Amy (Schumer) who lives the perfect life, or so she thinks. She has a great job and busy sex life. When her she is tasked by her boss (Swinton) to write an article on a sports doctor Aaron Connors (Hader) she finds herself falling in love for the first time in her life. Trying not to self-sabotage herself she must learn what is important in life, and what she truly wants.

Not the synopsis the trailers lead you think huh? My exact thoughts. Though that’s not bad. It is a lot of fun, and the cameos are freaking amazing. I was wondering how Schumer would be as the lead in the roll, and honestly she was very good. I really enjoyed her portrayal of the character. She’s raunchy and hilarious. Bill Hader does a wonderful job as always, I’ve always found his humor great. And not much more could be said about Collin Quinn. He’s always a great talent. However the break out of this film isn’t the trained professional actors. No, that title goes to LeBron James and John Cena. They are freaking hilarious. Probably some the best parts of the film involve them.

It’s funny how this story works as well. It takes your average Guy afraid of commitment story and flips it on its heads. The roles of the commitmentphobe goes to Schumer while nearly every guy in the film is want and need of that relationship and life. It was a fun twist that worked really well. Another plus is the heart this film has, that I wasn’t really prepared for. You really get to know and care about the majority of the characters.

What I didn’t like is something I don’t like about most Apatow films. The run time. It really begins to drag as the 3rd act gets going. Almost to the point that I was continually checking the time to try and see how much longer. Maybe it’s just me, but these Apatow films really drag in my opinion. Also there is a short storyline involving Ezra Miller’s character that really didn’t care for, seemed very pointless and out of place for the time it wrapped up. It also made me very weary of him playing the Flash, but that’s a story for another time.

All in all Trainwreck is a fun film; it can get a little slow so I don’t suggest catching the late showing like I did. It has a lot of laughs, some good heart, and it’s honestly a great date night movie. I’m giving it a 3.2 with a bonus of .3, .1 each for John Cena, LeBron James, and the rest of cameos. Giving Trainwreck a Jeebus Score of 3.5. Have you seen it Jackass Nation? What were your thoughts? Let me here in the comments below! And as always, keep on nerding!

The Jeebus Score explained

The Jeebus score is out of a possible 6 points. Films are giving a max of 1 point each for Acting, Entertainment, and Casting, and a max of .5 for Dialog, Cinematography, and Direction. There is also a possible bonus up to .5. Any film between 2.5 and 4 is considered a good film. 4-5 is a great film. Anything over 5 is an incredibly amazing film. To get a perfect score of 6 a film will pretty much have to be The Empire Strikes Back or The Godfather.
