SAN DIEGO COMIC CON!!!!!

What began in 1970 as a couple of guys sitting around talking about their comic books has now grown into a multimillion dollar convention. Where people from around the world all travel to San Diego California for 4 days to get the latest in movies, television, games, toys, and of Corse, comics. San Diego Comic Con has once again come and gone. I am beaten, I am broken, but I will give you my thoughts on everything major that came out the past 4 days. I’ve included links to the panels for anyone that wants to watch themselves, curtesy of Youtube.com/SchmoesKnow

Now the only panels I got to really go to personally was the Screen Junkies Honest Trailer/Movie Fights Panel. One of my main highlights of the entire Con. I had so much fun with it. They should be posting it up on their YouTube channel later this week. I also attended the panel Movies That Never Got Made which focused mostly on Jon Schnepp’s documentary The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? A film that I have been very excited for and I will be reviewing it as soon as I sit down and watch the entire Blu Ray. Including the 10 hours of bonus footage.

I spent my time for the most part wondering back and forth from outside Hall H to the Omni Hotel Lobby where there was free Wi-Fi. Between these points I came across all sorts of content. The Heroes Reborn Trailer, which looks interesting enough. I’ve never seen the original series, every time I tried to watch I never got through more than 3 episodes for one reason or another. But I definitely will give this a look. Blindspot the new NBC show starring Jaime Alexander looks to have a few episodes then be cancelled. I don’t see how it can really last long. It looks dull to me honestly. And for no reason in particular. It just feels like this is one of those shows that will sizzle out and be cancelled within the first episode, which is sad because I really like Jaime Alexander.

So Hall H began With The Hunger Games: MockingJay Part II. The panel was moderated by none other than Conan O’Brien. He did a great job being able to mix his comedy in with the cast and keep the panel rolling soothingly. These guys have such great chemistry together. On and off the screen. It is so fun to see them interact with each, and you truly feel the emotion and love they have for these films. They played a new trailer for the film which has yet to be released online. But from the sounds of it was action packed and showcased the true feel of the movie. Jennifer Laurence is an amazing person. She has the complete blend of intelligence, beauty, and class, all while being a complete ditz. She’s like a starburst, a complete contradiction. You hear her and think she’s ditzy until she turns the charm on and says something that completely blows your mind. She truly is the whole package, and true genuine person. You can catch the entire panel right here.

Fox truly brought the house down when they took the stage. They opened up with The Maze Runner followed by Victor Frankenstein. Where they each brought out the cast and spoke about the films, showing the new trailers for each. But honestly these were just the preshow for Fox. They then gave you Fantastic Four as an appetizer. But they finally brought the house down when Ryan Reynolds, not is costume oddly, came out on stage and introduced the raunchy, dirty, R rated panel for Dead pool! Which you can see here. As you see it was fun, it was amped up. The crowd was crazy hyped for it. I got a chance to see the footage they showed, and let me tell you, it was awesome. The bulk of it was the live action version of the leaked test footage from a year ago, with a lot of action set to DMX’s X Gone Give It to Ya. You’d think this was the main event, but they didn’t stop there.

Out came the cast of X-Men Apocalypse. Another amazing panel with amazing footage. After the footage Hugh Jackman all but confirmed that The Wolverine 3 would in fact be Old Man Logan. Which we can all agree, will be epic! Now the footage was very basic due to the fact they are so early in the production process. But we see Jean, and Jubilee, and quick sight of Cyclops. You get glimpses of Apocalypse all throughout it. But then, to close out the footage, Magneto stares at the screen and asks “Who the F*** are you?” and boom, we get it, Apocalypse in full garb. And he looks amazing. And if that wasn’t enough, they walk Channing Tatum, Gambit himself, to be included in their epic X-Men Selfie. This panel was so fun, and so exciting, and I cannot wait for the film! These panels were just so much fun, and the excitement they all show about the films makes me even more excited for them.

Next up we had the much anticipated Star Wars Panel. So much excitement, would we get the official announcement of Collin Trevorrow directing Episode IX? What about the Anthology films? Well we didn’t really get much of that all. Instead, we got Harrison Freaking Ford! That’s right ladies and gentlemen; Han Solo himself was in the house.  This was so awesome. Seeing the big 3 on stage at Comic Con is amazing. Plus added in the entire cast of Episode VII, get out bro! It was amazing! And I think bringing Harrison Ford out was there way to please the fans for not bringing any new footage or announcements. We got some behind the scenes footage, but nothing really new. But JJ brought out some of their practical effects creatures, and it was just incredible all the insight they brought with them. You can really tell this cast is passionate, and fans of the material. After the panel they took the fans outside and had an amazing Star Wars concert where every member of the audience was given a Light Saber!

WB/DC is going to be my vote for the Winner of Comic Con though. Starting with The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and then going into PAN They hit the ground running. But the meat of the morning was Suicide Squad and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Suicide Squad kicked it off with some incredible footage that can now be seen right here. Next up they brought out the entire cast of BvS for their Panel, and these guys are so into it makes me ready for it! For quite a while now Captain America: Civil War has been my most anticipated for 2016, this panel, and this trailer, are giving Marvel and Civil War a run for their money.

All and all Comic Con was freaking amazing guys. If I had to Jeebus Score it, I’d go 5.5 with the full bonus of .5 for EVERYTHING, giving San Diego Comic Con the first ever perfect 6.0 Jeebus Score! An amazing time, and I look forward to going to it again next year! Make sure to check out all the Comic Con coverage at Cinelinx.Com! And all always Jackass Nation, Keep on Nerding!

The boys are back in town!

The Iconic action stars of the 80s are back again. And this time they brought along even more fun. 80s, 90s, and even todays stars! The Expendables is a franchise that keeps growing in numbers. They are not known for their story driven cinema, or their Oscar winning performances. Its action. Nonstop, popcorn fun, action. I don’t go to these films expecting to be blown away by the script. Just the fun of seeing the stars I grew up on kicking ass! And that’s what they have delivered. The worry, is that now, The Expendables going into their 3rd film, have gone from a hard R rating, to a PG-13 in an attempt to broaden their audience. A risk if you ask me. I am the demographic for these films, if they try to gain a younger audience, they risk losing the audience they have. So was the risk worth it, well, I’d say yes it was.

This go around the Expendables return, Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. This go around they are joined by the likes of Antonio Banderas, Wesley Snipes, Kelsey Grammer, Kellun Lutz, Ronda Rousey, Glen Powell, Victor Ortiz, Robert Davi, Mel Gibson, and Han Solo himself, Harrison Ford. Once again written by Sylvester Stallone and directed this go around by Patrick Hughes. After the first 2, I love both installments. And actually believe the 2nd is better. The puns are great, the action if awesome. And the 3rd installment doesn’t really disappoint.

The story follows Barney Ross, as he trades in his old brethren for a younger team, in hopes to spare the lives of his Expendables. He goes up against a founding father of the Expendables, Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson) after the extraction of Stonebanks goes wrong, Barney and must once again enlist the back up of his brothers at arms.

Right of the bat, Gibson is the best thing about this film. He tows the line of crazy and psychopath so well, proving himself to still be one of the premier actors in the game. I for one hope this resurrects his career because it was fun seeing him again. There is a scene toward the middle of the film where he explains his motives to Stallone, it is almost chilling to watch Gibson upstage everyone.

If Gibson is the best part of this film, Banderas is a close second. As a nearly comic relief character, he channels his Desperado days and adds immense amount of humor and fun. You don’t know whether you want to kill this guy or die of laughing yourself. Rousey was used perfectly. Think Gina Carano in Fast 6. Snipes looked great, and makes me hope for a Blade 4. Harrison Ford takes over for Bruce Willis in this role, and actually doesn’t phone it in like Willis’ Church character in the past.

The PG-13 rating doesn’t necessarily hurt the film. Yes there are times when you wish there was terribly fake blood spatter. But they don’t skimp on the action! however if you watch closely you kind of see that there was probably blood in the original cut and makes you think there will be a director’s cut DVD.

There is an actual bit of character development in this film. The 2nd act of the film spends most its time developing the newbies, and Banderas. Problem is, that’s not why we are there. I want random explosions. I don’t necessarily need the details. It almost drags a bit in the film, but then the 3rd act hits and we back to what we want from these films.

In the end, if you want deep story, logic, and believability, then yes you are going to whine and cry about this movie. But if you can sit back, and enjoy the stars we grew up and some new faces, doing what they do best, then you are going to have a Good time at the theater. That’s right, thanks to a .2 bonus for a throwback Arnold “Get to tha choppa” line, I’m giving Expendables 3 a Jeebus score of 4.1.

This Week In Movie News

Welcome to this week in Movie news. The debut blog was supposed to go up last Saturday but I got wrapped up in my buddies wedding stuff and just didn’t have the time. So to counter that, we are going to chat the last 2 weeks of movie news. Most of which you probably already know, I’m just going to go over the big news and give a little bit of my own opinion on that. So, let’s get to it.

First thing we will get into is Marc Webb has announced he will be leaving the directors duties of The Amazing Spider-Man series after the third film. Honestly I think this is a good thing. Creative director’s risk getting stale sticking with a franchise so too long. Look at Sam Raimi and the first Spider-Man franchise. Bringing in a little bit of new blood will keep the franchise fresh. Which I believe is something we need. We are in an era when Reboots are inevitable, and I think if we could just sit back, and let new faces take over we could see fewer reboots. Kind of like the James Bond series. New bond, same series for years upon years. 20 or so films. Plus Webb has said he would like to stick around and perhaps consult a little here and there, and will probably be given a producers credit. Sony has shown they are ready for a shared Universe. A Universe that will be full of villains, which is new to the hero movie world. So fear not Spider-Man fans, we will be just fine.

Now what we are really waiting for, finally a tad bit of Star Wars news! Episode 7 will take place 30 years after Return of the Jedi. Good call. If you want to bring back the Big 3, at this time it’s not like you can make the film take place the day after the Ewok party. As well we have gotten the information that the film will focus around 3 new young Jedi, and some familiar faces. Now this got everybody excited. Everyone except me. Because let’s face it, we know this. We know there will be new Jedi in training, and we know the Big 3 will be back. This isn’t real news. Give me some casting, give me a plot hint. Give me something real. You are starting production in 2 months, TELL ME SOMETHING! I’m sick of these irrelevant subtle “news” stories that aren’t news!

We got Cars 2, who cares. We Got Monsters University, who cares. We are getting Finding Dory and Cars 3, who cares! Other than the Toy Story films, no one wanted sequels except to one! And finally, it is coming! The Incredibles 2! This is what we have all been waiting on! If any of the Pixar films was set up and deserves a sequel, it’s this one! And what excites me is not just that Incredibles 2 is finally coming but think about: Disney Owns Marvel this go around. We could see some Marvel cameos in this go around. I don’t expect anything big. Iron Man is not going to show up and save the day. But random little fun cameos in the background or so? Awesome! Not to mention that seeing the progression of these characters is going to be great! Seeing little Jack Jack come into his own? Shut Up and take my money!

Concept art and some photos have been released for Marvel’s The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. We will start with the most recent then go back to the more exciting. Action shots of Quick Silver, Scarlett Witch, and Hawkeye. Pretty basic, what I can say is I am already more excited for Marvel’s Quick Silver and Scarlett Witch better than the version we are getting g from Fox. What’s weird is Marvel can’t even hint at their true back stories, yet they look to be on top of the game. Hawkeye seems to have a new look and I like it. It’s a lot more comic like. The Ultron picture is a little more off, but I assume there will be a ton of CGI around him. So last up is the Hulk Buster concept art. This is what’s exciting. Yeah Banner’s trick is that he is always angry, but it is the Hulk. Eventually he is going to Rage out and the Avengers are going to have the deal. Even if this is just a small battle in the film it will be exciting to see Hulk and Iron Man go at it.

So Marvel pretty much runs the Hero game when it comes to films. Between Marvel Studios, Sony’s Spider-Man, Fox’s X-Men and soon to be Fantastic Four universe, Marvel is on top. DC gave us a decent film in Man of Steel 2, but are having problems gearing up for the sequel, or a shared universe. Now they have pushed back from their 2015 date to a date in 2016 already taken by what was then an untitled Marvel film. What was DC thinking, probably that it was going to be Doctor Strange or Black Panther. They probably felt that going against these lesser known films would make them move and they would gain a step in this game of Chicken. Well Marvel fired back hard, Captain America 3 going Head to Head with Man of Steel 2. And everything I have heard about The Winter Soldier, makes me think that MoS2 is in for a rude awakening. Sure film fans have been waiting since both Michael Keaton and Christopher Reeves suited up to see Batman and Superman together on the screen, but look at the track record! How could you not put your money on Marvel! I’m going to bet MoS2 moves their date, but if they don’t, if this game of chicken goes all the way down to the crashing point on May 6 2016, who will you see? I know where I will be at Midnight, Captain America 3.

I would like to say something about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle trailer, but, I didn’t watch it. I am waiting until I see it on the big screen before Captain America 2, so I can’t really comment on it. However after I do see it, I’ll put something up about my opinion. The Trailer I can comment on is Hercules. No not Kellen Lutz, I’m talking The Rock! The most electrifying man in all of entertain main playing the most legendary hero of all mythology! Some people are calling the voice over cheesy, but personally I loved it. We get scenes of Hercules fighting mythological beast, an epic shot of a giant lion attacking our hero, and a shot of Herc in the famous lion hoodie! If I wasn’t already, I’m all in now! This going to be a true epic!

So that’s what I got for. Just a little opinion from a guy that doesn’t really matter. I don’t really even know why you read this, but thank you. So feel free to jump down in the comments and tell me what you feel about these topics. Or what news this week stuck out to you?
