Paddington

When I saw the first trailer for Paddington it looked incredibly cheesy, and I expected it to be in and out of theaters and onto DVD in a week. I was surprised it was even going to go to theaters. I’m a week or 2 late to seeing it, but I am not going to lie to you. I was pleasantly surprised. Though I am not the target audience for the film, it is a lot of fun, and very cute.

Directed by Paul King, and stars Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi, and Nicole Whipsaw, Paddington tells the story of a bear that travels to London to find a new home. He is given a place to stay by a family with a very reluctant father. Slowly he becomes loved and brought into as a member of the family. But when an evil taxidermist hell-bent on making Paddington her next trophy threatens his existence, the family must band together to save the lovable bears life.

I never read the Paddington Bear series’ as a child but I knew who he was. SO again this was nothing I was really looking forwards to. But it is a lot of fun. If you have kids they are really going to enjoy it, and not as much as most films, the adults will get some laughs out of too.

The film and characters are all pretty cliché. The daughter is embarrassed by her family, the son is the rowdy little one, the mother is loving and accepting, and the father is reluctant and a straight arrow. Paddington throws the family into a mess and they all learn how to love one another even more. Nicole Kidman plays the villain of the film, and she could’ve been over the top, but it’s not it’s a lot of fun to see her in this role.

Again this film is nothing out of the ordinary. It is a good afternoon flick to take the kids too, they’ll have a great time, and you’ll get a laugh out of it. Paddington is definitely an ok film in an ocean full of crap that is January and February. We are giving it a Jeebus score of 3.8. So what say you Jackass Nation? Have you seen Paddington? Do you plan to? Did you read the stories as a child? Sound off in the comments below!

The Jeebus score is out of a possible 6 points. Films are giving a max of 1 point each for Acting, Entertainment, and Casting, and a max of .5 for Dialog, Cinematography, and Direction. There is also a possible bonus up to .5. Any film between 2.5 and 4 is considered a good film. 4-5 is a great film. Anything over 5 is an incredibly amazing film. To get a perfect score of 6 a film will pretty much have to be The Godfather.
